Show Mobile Some Love This Valentine’s Day

Love or hate them, mobile devices are all-set to surpass other types of devices in the near future. In 2012, smartphone subscriptions increased to 98 million users, representing almost 42 percent of all mobile users in the U.S. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, here are a few tips for courting your prospects, phones in hand:

Make sure your site is media agnostic, or at least mobile-friendly. Even business prospects have zero patience when it comes to browsing. According to the Interactive Advertising Bureau, 61 percent of customers who visit a mobile unfriendly site are likely to hit up a competitor’s site next. Avoid being ditched before dessert arrives with a site that embraces mobile users like ours. (Insert shameless agency plug here).

Consider an app – but only if it’s useful. Nielsen reported that 64 percent of mobile phone time is spent on apps. Find something to love about your product that could keep you top of mind with your audience, then build an app around it. Think “edutainment” that will gain valuable street cred in your industry.

Cozy up to big data. Like in dating, you want to learn from the past so you won’t be doomed to repeat it.  All components need to be in place to ensure you can measure, then optimize your efforts.

No matter which approach you take to attracting mobile users, it’s best to learn as much about your audience upfront, so you can focus on creating a mutually beneficial relationship.
